Please note: This page is still under construction – please click here for a list of completed chapters. The People’s Agenda 21 Project is a 100% volunteer project created and designed by the One Community Team. We are working 1000′s of hours to keep developing its 40 chapters of sustainability to share for those interested in sustainability what is available and working around the world. Thank you for your patience.

COOPERATION TO ADDRESS CHALLENGES OF ENVIRONMENT

In order to meet the inherent challenges of environmental issues and development of sustainable practices, it is being proposed that people take it upon themselves to establish and model cooperation to accelerate sustainable development built upon the core principles of environmentally and sustainably sound practices, resource based economies, and consensus in all areas.

OVERVIEW

Cooperation to accelerate sustainable development, focus and action have been broken down into the following categories:

  • Production and distribution
  • Internal environment: Open Source Sharing
  • External environment: Open and Fair Trade
  • Economic changes and challenges of environment

People's Agenda 21, Ideas for the betterment of humanity, serving the highest good of all

PRODUCTION AND DISTRIBUTION

We have the opportunity to help pioneer a global partnership to forward sustainability and produce a safe and stable natural environment that provides abundance and prosperity for the future of everyone if enough people join in to create this. To increase participation an open, equitable, secure, non-discriminatory and resource-based system that is consistent with the goals of sustainable development and leads to the optimal distribution of production in accordance with comparative advantage makes sense.

Ideas for those interested in implementation

  • Develop opportunities for growth in sustainable production
  • Create communities and groups that focus on sustainable initiatives and access to production
  • Create open source websites like One Community to share information on how to produce sustainable materials and products
  • Share information and resources openly to advance sustainable production and distribution

INTERNAL ENVIRONMENT: OPEN SOURCE SHARING

We have the opportunity to develop model community based on an open, equitable, secure, non-discriminatory and predictable multilateral trading system that is consistent with the goals of sustainable development resulting in an optimal distribution of local, national, and global productive revenue streams in accordance with comparative advantages that are of benefit to all trading partners. By pooling the creativity, resources and talents of communities, such communities are able to maximize impact in the marketplace and in their own lives.

Ideas for those interested in implementation

  • Access and create free and open source information online
  • Create social networks for people to cooperate and advance ideas and action on sustainable practices and environmental and human health
  • Create local, volunteer action groups to inform the community and take action

EXTERNAL ENVIRONMENT: OPEN AND FAIR TRADE

Cooperation in the environmental field is growing, and in a number of cases trade provisions in multilateral environment agreements have played a role in tackling global environmental challenges. With new technology, we now have the opportunity to utilize  measures to enhance the effectiveness of environmental regulations for the protection of the environment. The challenge is to ensure that trade and environment policies are consistent and reinforce the process of sustainable development.

Ideas for those interested in implementation

  • Fair Trade: People and communities can promote and model an open, non-discriminatory and equitable multilateral trading system that will enable all participants to improve their economic structures and improve the standard of living of their populations through sustained economic development
  • Open Source Sharing as a Source of Economic Improvement: Communities commit to finding ways and means of achieving a better functioning market with enhanced transparency creating greater diversification that takes into consideration a locations-based economic structure, resource endowments and market opportunities, and better management of natural resources taking into account sustainable development
  • Rewards for sharing: Establish, in light of the country-specific conditions, economic  reforms that promote the efficient planning and utilization of resources for sustainable development through sound economic and social policies, foster entrepreneurship and the incorporation of social and environmental costs in resource pricing, and remove sources of distortion in the area of trade and investment
  • Resource sharing for the greater good: Develop practices that improve efficiency in the allocation of resources and take full advantage of the opportunities offered by the changing global economic environment. In particular, and wherever appropriate, taking into account national strategies and objectives

ECONOMIC CHANGES AND CHALLENGES OF ENVIRONMENT

During a time of economic changes and record joblessness, what better opportunity to create new jobs in the growing market of sustainability? An open system with full transparency makes possible a more efficient allocation and use of resources; thereby contributing to an increase in production and incomes resulting in lessening demands on the environment. It thus provides additional resources needed for economic growth, development and improved environmental protection. A sound environment provides the ecological and other resources needed to sustain growth and underpins a continuing expansion of community wealth (resources). An open and transparent resource-based system, supported by the adoption of sound and sustainable environmental practices, would have a positive impact on the environment, and contribute to sustainable development and prosperity on a wider scale for all.

Ideas for those interested in implementation

  • Support transition to resource based economy and network within the local community
  • Full transparency in economic decision-making, engaged in by means of a consensus-based and thus more democratic model
  • Support of win-win practices: Foster the association of effective, efficient, honest, equitable and accountable entrepreneurship with individual rights and opportunities supporting and investing in the needs of the group is an essential element for sustainable, broadly based development and sound economic performance at all development levels
  • Making investment and infrastructure changes beneficial for sustainable economic growth and ultimately people
  • The creation of a domestic economic environment supportive of an optimal balance between production for the community and the health of those people and their environment
